What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm product where no injuries have been reported. The display failure prevents drivers from viewing safety-critical information, but no actual crashes or injuries are documented. Per the rubric, theoretical hazards without reported harm score at most 3 (High).
Plain-English summary
Kia America, Inc. is recalling certain 2024 and 2025 Kia EV9 vehicles due to a software error in the instrument cluster. The software malfunction causes the instrument panel screen to fail, preventing it from displaying critical safety information including the speedometer and warning lights. Approximately 14,163 vehicles are affected by this recall.
Owners may not be aware of their vehicle's speed or the status of warning indicators when the display fails. Loss of this safety information increases the risk of a vehicle crash, as drivers cannot accurately monitor speed or respond to warning signals.
The remedy is a free software update to the instrument cluster. This update can be delivered either by a Kia dealer or through an over-the-air (OTA) update. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 25, 2024. Owners should contact Kia Customer Service at 1-800-333-4542 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for assistance.
