Honda Odyssey, Pilot, Passport Rearview Camera Display Failure Recall
A faulty MOST cable connector in certain 2018-2023 Honda Odyssey, Pilot, and Passport vehicles may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying, reducing rear visibility and increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: No deaths or injuries have been reported. The hazard is risk-of-harm (loss of rearview camera display increases crash risk) without materialized injury, meeting the rubric criterion for score 3.
Plain-English summary
Honda is recalling certain Odyssey (2018-2023), Pilot (2019-2022), and Passport (2019-2023) vehicles due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector. This defect may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying on the vehicle's dashboard display.
When the rearview camera image does not display, the driver's rear visibility is reduced. This increases the risk of a crash or injury when reversing or backing up. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, which addresses rear visibility.
Honda dealers will replace the faulty MOST cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 to schedule repairs.
For additional information, owners may contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov. The NHTSA campaign number is 23V431000. Approximately 1,209,673 vehicles are affected by this recall.
