2020 Honda Fit rearview camera may not display on startup
The rearview camera display may not activate when a 2020 Honda Fit is started with a key due to a display power circuit design error, reducing rear visibility and increasing crash risk. Dealers will provide a free software fix.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall affects a safety-critical system (rear visibility) with a known risk of crash-related harm, but no injuries have been reported. The source identifies this as a non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, making it a regulatory defect rather than a precautionary recall, fitting the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Honda is recalling certain 2020 Honda Fit vehicles due to a design error in the audio display power circuit. When the engine is started using a key, the rearview camera image may not display properly, causing the system to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111.
An inoperative rearview camera display reduces the driver's rear visibility, increasing the risk of a crash. This is particularly concerning because the rearview camera is a critical safety feature for preventing backing accidents.
To address this issue, authorized Honda dealers will update the display audio unit software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 13, 2023. Owners can contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 to schedule an appointment or for more information.
This recall has been superseded by NHTSA recall number 24V-384. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V-046 will need to have the new remedy completed under the superseding recall.
