Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2023 Western Star 57X vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the electrical system where the interior turn signals may flash too quickly and fail to align with the exterior turn signal flashing. Because the interior signals flash too rapidly, they may not change their flash rate to alert the driver when an exterior turn signal bulb is burnt out. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
A nonfunctioning exterior turn signal may not notify other drivers of a turning vehicle, which increases the risk of a crash. The source text does not report any specific injuries or fatalities associated with this defect.
Dealers will update the turn signal indicator software free of charge to correct the issue. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 13, 2023. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
