Daimler Trucks is recalling approximately 26,960 Western Star 47X and 49X trucks (model years 2020-2027) with battery connection studs that may corrode or be incorrectly installed, risking short circuits and fire. Dealers will repair the defect at no cost.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a known structural vehicle defect (battery electrical connection) that creates risk of short circuit and fire. However, no actual injuries, fires, or property damage have been reported. Per the rubric, defects with theoretical hazards and no reported harm are scored as High (3).

Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling approximately 26,960 Western Star 47X and 49X commercial trucks from model years 2020 through 2027. The defect involves a stud that connects the battery to the starter at the frame rail. This stud may have been incorrectly installed during manufacturing or may corrode over time.

If the stud is loose or corroded, it can fail to maintain proper electrical contact, causing a short circuit in the 12V/24V/48V electrical system. A short circuit increases the risk of a fire.

Owners of affected vehicles were notified by mail on May 22, 2026. The remedy is free repair by authorized Daimler dealers. Owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America customer service at 1-800-547-0712. Daimler's internal reference number for this recall is F1029. This recall replaces and expands a previous NHTSA recall number 25V326; vehicles already repaired under that previous recall will require the new remedy as well.
