2023 Lucid Air propulsion system electrical switches may fail unexpectedly
Lucid is recalling certain 2022-2023 Air vehicles because electrically activated contactor switches in the propulsion system may unexpectedly open, cutting power to the electric motors and increasing the risk of a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting critical propulsion system components. Unexpected failure of the contactor switches results in complete loss of drive power while the vehicle is operating, creating an immediate and significant crash risk.
Plain-English summary
Lucid USA, Inc. is recalling certain 2022-2023 Lucid Air vehicles. The electrically activated contactor switches that transfer energy to the drive motors may unexpectedly open during operation.
When these switches fail and open, they cut off power to the electric motors, causing an immediate loss of drive power. This loss of propulsion while the vehicle is in motion increases the risk of a crash.
Approximately 886 vehicles are affected by this recall across the 2022 and 2023 model years.
Lucid Service Centers will update the vehicle software and replace the contactor switches as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Lucid customer service at 1-888-995-8243 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
