What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The source describes a loss-of-power hazard increasing crash risk but reports no injuries or deaths, fitting Score 3 criteria: risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Lucid USA, Inc. is recalling certain 2022 and 2023 Lucid Air vehicles due to a software fault in the High Voltage Interlock (HVIL) system. When a hardware communication fault is detected, the HVIL software could disconnect the high voltage contactors while the vehicle is in motion.

A loss of drive power while the vehicle is driving significantly increases the risk of a crash. This represents a potential safety hazard that required manufacturer intervention.

Approximately 5,251 vehicles are affected by this recall. Lucid released a free over-the-air (OTA) software update on June 24, 2024, to address the issue.
