What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a tire defect that can lead to tread separation and crash risk, meeting the rubric criterion for risk-of-harm products. However, no injuries, deaths, or crashes have been reported in the source, and the hazard remains theoretical (potential rather than actual), which caps the score at 3 per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
KTM North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2019-2023 KTM and Husqvarna motorcycles equipped with TKC80 tires. The affected models include the KTM 250/350/450/500 EXC-F, 690/1090/1290 ADVENTURE, and 890 ADVENTURE R series, as well as Husqvarna FE and 701 ENDURO models across multiple model years between 2019 and 2023. Approximately 27,399 units are affected by this recall.
The tires on these motorcycles may develop cracks longer than 3/16 inch in the tread grooves. These cracks can lead to tread separation, which increases the risk of a crash. The vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 119, which covers pneumatic tire safety requirements.
KTM will replace the affected tires at no charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 16, 2022. Owners can contact KTM's customer service at 1-888-985-6090 (KTM recall numbers: KTB2208 and HTB2207) or call the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
