2025 KTM motorcycles recalled for side stand spring failure

KTM is recalling certain 2025 motorcycle models due to a side stand spring that can break under engine vibration. A fallen side stand while riding can shut off the ignition and increase the risk of a crash or injury.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting motorcycles. No injuries or property damage have been reported, but the defect presents a realistic risk of crash or injury if the side stand fails while riding, meeting the rubric criterion for Score 3 (High).

Plain-English summary

KTM North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2025 KTM 390 ENDURO R, 390 ADVENTURE R, 390 ADVENTURE X, and 390 SMC R motorcycles. Approximately 2,512 units are affected by this recall.

Engine vibrations can cause the side stand spring to break, allowing the side stand to fall to the ground while the motorcycle is being ridden.

A side stand that falls while riding can shut off the ignition, increasing the risk of a crash or injury to the rider.

Owners should secure the side stand before riding until the remedy has been completed. KTM dealers will replace the side stand spring and install a new side stand sensor retaining plate at no charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 17, 2026.
