KTM motorcycle side stand spring may break and fall down

KTM is recalling certain 2025 390 Adventure R, 390 Adventure X, 390 SMC R and 390 Enduro R motorcycles because engine vibrations may break the side stand spring, letting the stand fall to the ground.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: a broken spring can drop the stand onto the road while riding and cut the ignition, which is a loss of propulsion on a motorcycle.

Plain-English summary

KTM North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2025 390 Adventure R, 390 SMC R, 390 Adventure X and 390 Enduro R motorcycles. About 2,512 units are potentially affected.

Engine vibrations may cause the side stand spring to break and the side stand to fall to the ground.

NHTSA states that a motorcycle side stand that falls to the ground while riding can shut off the ignition, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Owners are advised to secure the side stand before riding until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the side stand spring and install a new side stand sensor retaining plate, free of charge. Owners may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
