Plain-English summary
Navistar is recalling certain 2021 International LT vehicles equipped with Cummins X15 engines due to a defect in flywheel attachment. Seven units are affected.
The capscrews that secure the flywheel to the crankshaft may have been improperly torqued during manufacturing. This improper torquing can allow the flywheel to detach from the crankshaft during vehicle operation.
If a flywheel detaches, the vehicle will lose drive power, increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, driveline components may be ejected from the engine compartment, creating a risk of injury to occupants or bystanders.
Owners should contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 to schedule repair. Cummins dealers will properly tighten the capscrews and inspect for damage at no cost. The remedy began March 29, 2021. For additional information, contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit safercar.gov.
