2021 BMW X5, X6, X7 Steering Column Defect Recall

BMW of North America, LLC is recalling certain 2021 BMW X5, X6, and X7 models due to a defect in the steering column shaft's universal joint connection. The connection may not have been tightened to specifications during manufacturing, causing it to become loose over time.
A loose steering column shaft universal joint connection affects vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.
BMW will notify owners and arrange for dealers to inspect the affected vehicles at no charge. Depending on inspection results, dealers will either tighten the bolt to specifications or replace the steering column shaft, universal joint, and bolt. The remedy program began on March 30, 2021.
