Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Front Seat Belt Brackets May Not Secure
General Motors is recalling certain 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and other vehicles because front-row center seat belt brackets may not be properly secured to the seat frame, potentially preventing proper restraint in a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting vehicle safety restraints. Although no injuries have been reported, improperly secured seat belt brackets constitute a significant safety defect that compromises passenger restraint in a crash, meeting the criteria for Severe classification.
Plain-English summary
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon XL vehicles, and 2020-2021 Chevrolet and GMC Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks. The seat belt brackets in the front-row center seating position may not be properly secured to the seat frame.
If a seat belt bracket is not properly secured, the seat belt may not properly restrain an occupant in the front-row center seat position, increasing the risk of injury in a crash.
GM will notify owners and authorize dealers to inspect the left-side and right-side front-row center seat-belt bracket attachments and reassemble them correctly as necessary. This service is provided at no charge. The recall began January 26, 2021.
