General Motors is recalling 2015-2016 Chevrolet and GMC vehicles because a brake pedal pivot nut may loosen, potentially rendering the brakes inoperative or interfering with the accelerator.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that may render the brakes inoperative or interfere with the accelerator, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural vehicle defects.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500, GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, Chevrolet Tahoe Police Pursuit/Special Service, and Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service vehicles. The recall affects approximately 42,280 vehicles.
The defect involves the brake pedal pivot nut, which may loosen. If this occurs, the brake pedal may become loose or inoperative, preventing the driver from stopping the vehicle using the brake pedal. Additionally, a loose pedal may interfere with the accelerator pedal. Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will add adhesive to the nut and reinstall it with increased tightness free of charge. The recall began on October 3, 2018. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18278. Note that these vehicles require this additional remedy despite being covered by recall 16V069 for brake pedal loosening.
