Mazda North American Operations is recalling certain 2016-2019 MX-5 (Miata) vehicles equipped with automatic transmissions. The recall addresses a defect in the Transmission Control Module (TCM) programming that may cause the vehicle to unexpectedly downshift and abruptly decelerate under certain conditions.
If the vehicle abruptly downshifts, the driver may lose control, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall covers approximately 14,370 vehicles. Mazda will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the TCM with corrected software at no charge. The recall began on March 14, 2019.
