Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2009 Nissan Murano vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) Hydraulic Control Units (HCU). Valves within these units may react with brake fluids containing specific corrosion preventative additives, which can cause the valves to not close properly.
If the valves do not close properly, additional brake pedal travel may be required to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall began on February 7, 2019.
Owners should contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or their local dealer. Dealers will flush the brake system with DOT 4 fluid and test the HCU for stuck valves. If necessary, the HCU will be replaced free of charge. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
