Navistar Recalls International Trucks Due to Air Dryer Bracket Fracture Risk
Navistar is recalling 2016-2018 International heavy diesel trucks because a mounting bracket may fracture, causing air leaks and increased stopping distance.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in the braking system (air dryer mounting bracket) that can lead to loss of brake pressure and increased crash risk, meeting the criteria for a structural vehicle defect.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2016-2018 International LT, 2016-2017 International ProStar, 2017-2018 International LoneStar, and 2017-2018 International RH heavy diesel trucks. The recall involves 2,786 vehicles.
The air dryer mounting bracket may fracture, which can cause air system leaks or a loss of air pressure to the brake system. A loss of brake air pressure could lengthen the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the air dryer mounting bracket free of charge. The recall began on May 12, 2017. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
