Turtle Top Recalls Wheelchair Lifts Due to Bearing Failure Risk
Turtle Top is recalling specific wheelchair lifts installed in Odyssey and Terra Transport vehicles because pivot holes may allow bearings to move, risking platform failure.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in a wheelchair lift that could cause the platform to fall, increasing the risk of injury to the operator. No injuries or deaths are reported in the source text, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Turtle Top is recalling certain model year 2006-2014 Odyssey, 2008-2009 and 2011 Odyssey LT, 2007-2008 and 2010-2012 Odyssey XL, 2008 and 2012 Terra Transport, and 2007-2008 and 2013 Van Terra vehicles. The recall affects vehicles equipped with specific Ricon wheelchair lifts (models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510) that have folding link arms with pivot holes that are too big. This defect allows the bearings to move out of position.
If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement, resulting in the failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.
Turtle Top will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. The recall began on March 21, 2016. Owners may contact Turtle Top customer service at 1-574-831-4340 or Ricon customer service at 1-800-322-2884.
