AEV Ambulance Wheelchair Van Recall for Lift Bearing Defect

Halcore is recalling 2006-2013 AEV Ambulance Wheelchair Vans because wheelchair lift bearings may move, causing the platform to fall and injure operators.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where a falling platform could cause injury, but the source text does not report any actual injuries or fatalities, fitting the 'High' criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.

Plain-English summary

Halcore Group, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 American Emergency Vehicles (AEV) Ambulance Wheelchair Vans manufactured between January 2, 2006, and March 15, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with specific Ricon Corporation wheelchair lifts (models S2005, S2010, S5005, S5010, S5505, and S5510) that have folding link arms with pivot holes that may be too large, allowing bearings to move out of position.

If the bearings move out of position, the stowed platform may have excessive movement, resulting in the failure of the platform mounting. This failure could cause the wheelchair lift platform to fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, increasing the risk of injury for the lift operator.

The recall began on January 13, 2016. Ricon dealers will inspect the link arms for damage or displaced bearings and inspect the platform for cracks. Any damaged parts will be replaced free of charge. Owners may contact Ricon Customer Service at 1-800-322-2884 or AEV customer service at 1-800-374-9749. Halcore's number for this recall is 15E-068.
