Trans Tech Student Safety Transport Recalled for Rear Axle Overload Risk

Transportation Collaborative, Inc. is recalling 2012-2015 Trans Tech Student Safety Transport buses because the rear axle may fail if loaded to full capacity.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (rear axle/tire failure) that increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Transportation Collaborative, Inc. (TCI) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Trans Tech Bus Student Safety Transporter school buses. The affected vehicles were manufactured between December 1, 2012, and April 23, 2015. These buses were built to accommodate 35 children or 23 adults.

The recall addresses a defect where loading the bus to its listed capacity may cause the load to exceed the rated capacity of the rear axle and tires. If the vehicle is loaded to this capacity, the rear axle or tires may fail, which increases the risk of a crash.

TCI will notify owners, and dealers will remove two seats and install a corrected capacity label free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact TCI customer service at 1-845-988-0419 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
