Plain-English summary

Eldorado National-California, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Passport HD vehicles manufactured between May 1, 2012, and June 30, 2014. The recall addresses a defect in the electrical system where the power cable connecting the starter motor to the alternator may chafe against the auxiliary air conditioning compressor bracket.

If the wire chafes, it may short to ground, which increases the risk of a fire. Eldorado National has notified owners, and dealers will inspect and secure the wires to protect them from rubbing on the compressor bracket. Any wire that is damaged will be replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge.

The recall began on May 15, 2015. Owners may contact Eldorado National customer service at 1-909-591-9557. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
