What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (fire risk) where injury has not yet been reported, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria in the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Eldorado National (California), Inc. is recalling certain model year 2005-2012 Axess, 2006-2013 E-Z Rider II, and 2013 Passport buses. The recall involves vehicles equipped with Sure Power-brand battery equalizers or DC-DC converters that contain a specific epoxy sealing, or 'potting,' compound. This compound was found to be capable of conducting electricity after exposure to heat.

Once the material becomes electrically conductive, it is capable of melting and burning, which increases the risk of a fire. The recall affects 548 vehicles in total.

Eldorado will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected equalizers or converters free of charge. The recall began on February 15, 2014. Owners may contact Eldorado at 1-909-591-9557 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
