Eldorado Buses Recalled for Air Conditioner Fuse Fire Risk

Eldorado National is recalling 2007-2011 buses equipped with specific Carrier air conditioners because a loose fuse may cause arcing and a vehicle fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a vehicle fire hazard caused by electrical arcing, which meets the rubric criteria for 'Severe' (score 4) due to the potential for significant property damage and injury, even though no specific injuries or deaths are reported in the text.

Plain-English summary

Eldorado National is recalling certain model year 2007-2011 Aerotech, Aerolite, Aero Elite, and Transtech buses. These vehicles were manufactured between January 2006 and March 2011 and are equipped with Carrier GenV EM-1 evaporator units. The recall involves 4,333 vehicles.

The defect involves the air conditioner fuse, which may loosen in the fuse holder due to time, temperature, and/or vibration. This loosening can result in high resistance and arcing. If sufficient arcing occurs, the fuse holder may melt, potentially leading to a vehicle fire.

Carrier will notify owners and provide information on how to obtain a retrofit kit and repair instructions. This service will be performed free of charge under Carrier's recall campaign 11E-003.
