What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (tie rod assembly) that can result in loss of vehicle control and a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain model year 2014 J4500 and model year 2015 D4000ISTV, D4005, D4500, and D4505 motor coaches. The affected vehicles were manufactured between August 26, 2014, and December 3, 2014. The recall involves front and steerable tag axles where the tie rod nuts may be improperly torqued.
If the tie rod nuts are not properly torqued, the tie rod may not be adequately secured. This condition can result in a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.
MCI will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the tie rod nut torque and replace parts as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on April 15, 2015. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
