MCI is recalling 2018-2026 buses because the instrument panel indicator light may not illuminate when hazard warning lights are active and the master run switch is off.

What this means for you

Our assessment, not the agency’s: severity 3/5 (High).

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a defect where the instrument panel indicator light may not illuminate for active hazard warning lights, which can confuse other drivers and increase the risk of a crash. The source does not report any injuries, deaths, or crashes.

Plain-English summary

Motor Coach Industries (MCI) is recalling certain 2018-2026 buses, including the D45CRTLE, D4020ISTV, D4520, D45CRTE, D45CRTELE, D4020, and D45CRT models. The instrument panel indicator light may not illuminate when the hazard warning lights are on and the master run switch is in the 'Off' position. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Without the illuminated reminder, the driver may fail to turn off the exterior lights when no longer needed. Hazard warning lights that remain activated unintentionally can confuse other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.

MCI will update the software, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 24, 2026. Owners may contact MCI customer service at 1-800-241-2947.
