The affected vehicles were manufactured between July 27, 2013, and October 31, 2014, with specific manufacturing windows for the Hybrid and Energi models. In total, 56,479 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The recall addresses a defect where the key may be able to be removed even while the transmission is not in Park. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention." If the key is removed while the vehicle is not in Park, a driver may mistakenly believe the vehicle is safety parked, which increases the risk of a vehicle rollaway that could strike and injure the driver, other occupants, or bystanders.
