Ford Vehicle Park System Software Defect Increases Risk of Rollaway
Ford is recalling 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Maverick vehicles. The park module may fail to lock into park, allowing unintended rollaway.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is classified as Severe because the park module failure is a structural vehicle defect affecting a critical safety system (rollaway prevention per FMVSS 114). Although no injuries or deaths are currently reported, a vehicle that cannot lock into park poses a significant rollaway risk.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2022-2026 Ford F-150 Lightning BEV, 2024-2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Ford Maverick vehicles. The integrated park module in the automatic transmission may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts the vehicle into park.
This failure violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, which requires rollaway prevention mechanisms. When the park module fails to lock, the vehicle can roll away unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash.
Approximately 272,645 vehicles are affected. Ford mailed owner notification letters on February 3, 2026. The remedy is a free software update to the park module, available over-the-air or through a Ford dealer. Owners should contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved can be searched on NHTSA.gov.
