Ford Recalls Vehicles Due to Fuel Pump Failure Risk
Ford is recalling certain 2014-2015 vehicles because a defective fuel pump may cause the engine to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel pump failure) that can cause the vehicle to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2014 Ford Escape, 2015 Lincoln MKC, 2014-2015 Ford Transit Connect, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta, and 2014 Ford Edge vehicles. The recall was initially announced in January 2015 and expanded in April 2015 to include an additional 45,505 vehicles. The affected vehicles were manufactured between November 2013 and August 2014.
The recall is due to improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump, which may result in the fuel pump failing. If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
