What this means for you

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2015 Ford Escape, Focus, and C-Max vehicles. The recall covers Escape vehicles manufactured between April 1, 2014, and June 12, 2015; Focus vehicles manufactured between June 17, 2014, and June 12, 2015; and C-Max vehicles manufactured between April 22, 2014, and June 12, 2015.

In the affected vehicles, the engine may continue to run after the key or the START/STOP engine button is turned to off. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention." If the engine does not turn off as expected, someone could move the transmission shifter out of park, causing the vehicle to move unintentionally and increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the body control module software to correct the issue free of charge. The recall began on July 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 15C06.
