Ford Recalls Vehicles Due to Door Latch Repair Defects
Ford is recalling specific 2011-2016 vehicles because previous door latch repairs may have been incomplete, potentially allowing doors to open while driving.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (door latches) that could open while in motion, posing a significant risk of injury to occupants, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury reports.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2011-2016 Ford and Lincoln vehicles, including the Fiesta, Focus, C-Max, Transit Connect, Escape, Mustang, Fusion, MKZ, and MKC. These vehicles were previously addressed under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643, or 17V-210, but the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break, making doors difficult to latch or leading occupants to believe a door is securely closed when it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020.
Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.
