2022-2024 Toyota Tundra and Lexus vehicles recalled for engine bearing failure

Manufacturing debris may contaminate the engine in certain 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra and Lexus vehicles, causing bearing failure that could result in engine stall and loss of drive power.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a real manufacturing defect capable of causing loss of drive power and increased crash risk. However, no injuries, deaths, or property damage has been reported. Because consequences are stated as potential risks rather than confirmed incidents, the score is capped at 3 per the rubric.

Plain-English summary

Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing is recalling certain 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra, 2022-2024 Lexus LX, and 2024 Lexus GX vehicles equipped with a V35A engine. Manufacturing debris may contaminate the engine during production and cause the main bearings to fail.

When main bearings fail, the engine can stall and the vehicle loses drive power. Loss of drive power significantly increases the risk of a crash.

Toyota has not yet developed a repair. Interim notification letters were mailed to owners on December 16, 2025. The company expects to send additional letters when a final remedy is available, anticipated in July or August 2026. Owners should contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 for more information. This recall expands a previous NHTSA recall (24V381).
