Ford Recalls 2013-2015 Taurus, Flex, MKS, MKT for Fuel Pump Defect

Ford is recalling 2013-2015 Taurus, Flex, MKS, and MKT vehicles because a fuel pump component may overheat, causing the engine to stall or preventing the vehicle from starting.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (fuel pump failure) that can cause the engine to stall or prevent starting, explicitly increasing the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects and significant injury risk.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ford Taurus, Ford Flex, Lincoln MKS, and Lincoln MKT vehicles equipped with 3.5L GTDI Ecoboost engines, as well as 2013-2015 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor vehicles. The recall affects approximately 77,502 vehicles.

A component within the fuel pump electric module (PEM) may overheat, causing a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump. This loss of power can cause the engine to stall or prevent the vehicle from starting, which increases the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the fuel PEM part number and replace the fuel PEM, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on December 1, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
