GM Recalls 2015 Cadillac Escalade Models for Air Bag Defect

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (air bag) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for potential personal injury in a crash.

Plain-English summary

General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2015 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV vehicles. The recall addresses a defect in the passenger side instrument panel top cover, which may have been manufactured using an incorrect spacer fabric. This error causes reduced adhesion between the spacer fabric and the vinyl show surface, resulting in inconsistent passenger air bag deployment. Consequently, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."

The inconsistent air bag deployment increases the risk of personal injury in the event of a crash necessitating air bag deployment. The recall began on November 11, 2014. GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the instrument panel top cover free of charge. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
