Infiniti Recalls 2014 QX80 Vehicles for Incorrect Certification Label
Nissan is recalling 2014 Infiniti QX80 vehicles because the certification label lists an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating, potentially allowing vehicle overload.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a labeling error that creates a theoretical risk of vehicle overload and crash, but no injuries or fatalities are reported, fitting the criteria for moderate severity.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2014 Infiniti QX80 vehicles manufactured between December 2, 2013, and January 27, 2014. These vehicles are equipped with 20-inch wheels. The recall involves 468 units.
The defect is that the Certification label incorrectly lists the Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) as 4,497 lb instead of the correct 4,343 lb. This error means the vehicles do not comply with the Federal Certification Regulation (Part 567). An incorrect GAWR listing may result in the vehicle being overloaded, which may increase the risk of a crash.
Nissan will notify owners and mail a corrected Certification label free of charge. The recall began on April 21, 2014. Owners may contact Infiniti at 1-800-662-6200 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
