Nissan and Infiniti VC-Turbo engine bearings may cause engine failure
Nissan is recalling certain 2019-2024 Rogue, Altima, Infiniti QX50 and QX55 vehicles with VC-Turbo engines because engine bearing defects can lead to engine failure and, if the block is breached, an engine fire.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: defective engine bearings are a structural fault that can fail the engine and breach the block, discharging hot oil.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2021-2024 Rogue, 2019-2020 Altima, 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50 and 2022 Infiniti QX55 vehicles equipped with 3-cylinder 1.5L or 4-cylinder 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engines. About 443,899 units are potentially affected.
The engine bearings may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine failure.
NHTSA states that engine failure increases the risk of a crash, and that a bearing failure may cause a breach in the engine block allowing hot oil to be discharged, increasing the risk of an engine fire.
Dealers will reprogram the engine control module software free of charge. Owner letters were mailed on April 8, 2026. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261 or Infiniti customer service, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
