What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (door latches) that could prevent occupants from exiting during a crash or fire, posing a risk of injury, but no injuries or fatalities are reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Kenworth T680 chassis and Peterbilt 567 and 579 chassis. The affected vehicles were manufactured between January 2012 and October 2013 and are equipped with Inteva-brand door latch assemblies. Approximately 11,056 vehicles are affected by this recall.
The defect involves the door latch assemblies, which may cause the doors to lock permanently while closed or allow them to be opened from the outside even after they have been locked. If the door latch assembly becomes permanently locked while the vehicle is in use, occupants could be prevented from exiting the vehicle in the event of a crash or fire, increasing the risk of injury.
PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right door latch assemblies with new assemblies free of charge. The recall began on March 25, 2014. Customers may contact Paccar at 1-425-468-8228. Kenworth's recall number is 14KWB, and Peterbilt's recall number is 114-A. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
