Skyline Recalls 2006-2013 Trailers Due to Door Lock Jamming Risk
Skyline is recalling 2006-2013 travel and fifth-wheel trailers because a door lock defect could jam the deadbolt, potentially trapping occupants inside.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, as the defect could trap occupants inside the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Plain-English summary
Skyline Corporation is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 recreational vehicle travel trailers and fifth-wheel trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and May 31, 2013. The affected vehicles are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. The recall covers 38,434 units across several models, including the Skycat, Weekender, Nomad, Mountainview, Malibu, Aljo, Layton, Koala, Joey, Ecocamp, Bobcat, and Alumaskey.
The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the travel trailer locked in and unable to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.
Skyline will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on April 7, 2014. Owners may contact Skyline at 1-800-755-6521 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or go to www.safercar.gov.
