Marathon Recalls 2006-2013 Trailers Due to Door Lock Jamming Risk
Marathon Homes is recalling 2006-2013 towable and fifth wheel travel trailers because a door lock defect may jam the deadbolt, potentially trapping occupants inside.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, as the defect could trap occupants inside the trailer, increasing the risk of injury.
Plain-English summary
Marathon Homes Corporation is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 towable and fifth wheel travel trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and April 25, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. The recall affects 54 units.
The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could lock a person inside the travel trailer, preventing them from exiting without using the emergency exit, which increases the risk of injury.
Marathon will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on January 23, 2014. Owners may contact Marathon Homes at 1-574-294-6441 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
