Charmac Recalls 2006-2007 Trailers Due to Door Lock Jamming Risk

Charmac Trailers is recalling 2006-2007 Horse, Cargo, and Sports Trailers because a door lock defect could jam the deadbolt, potentially trapping occupants inside.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically the potential for occupants to be trapped inside the trailer.

Plain-English summary

Charmac Trailers Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2007 Cargo, Horse, and Sports Trailers manufactured between January 2006 and December 2006. These vehicles are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks that may allow the key to be removed in a way that jams the deadbolt.

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the travel trailer locked in and unable to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

Charmac Trailers will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin by the end of November 2013. Owners may contact Charmac Trailers at 1-208-733-5241 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505.
