Cargo Craft Recalls 2006-2013 Trailers Due to Door Lock Jamming Risk

Cargo Craft is recalling 2006-2013 cargo trailers because a door lock defect may jam the deadbolt, potentially trapping occupants inside the vehicle.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically the potential for occupants to be trapped inside the vehicle, which aligns with the 'High' severity criteria.

Plain-English summary

Cargo Craft, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 cargo trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and April 25, 2013. The recall affects trailers equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. Approximately 36,272 units are affected.

The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the travel trailer locked in and unable to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

Cargo Craft will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall was expected to begin by the end of December 2013. Owners may contact Cargo Craft at 1-912-359-2343 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
