Wells Cargo Recalls Trailers Due to Door Lock Jamming Risk
Wells Cargo is recalling 2006-2013 cargo trailers because a door lock defect could jam the deadbolt, potentially trapping occupants inside the vehicle.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, specifically the potential for occupants to be trapped inside the vehicle due to a jammed lock.
Plain-English summary
Wells Cargo, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 cargo trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and April 25, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. The recall affects 4,754 units.
The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could prevent a person inside the travel trailer from exiting the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Wells Cargo will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on January 10, 2014. Owners may contact Wells Cargo at 1-800-348-7553 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
