Wells Cargo Trailer Recall for Door Lock Jamming Risk

Wells Industries is recalling 2006-2013 Wells Cargo trailers equipped with Fastec door locks because the deadbolt may jam, potentially trapping occupants inside.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria for potential entrapment and injury.

Plain-English summary

Wells Industries, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 Wells Cargo trailers manufactured between January 1, 2006, and April 25, 2013. These vehicles are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. The recall affects 512 units.

The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the trailer locked in and unable to exit, increasing the risk of injury.

Wells Industries will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on January 10, 2014. Owners may contact Wells Industries at 1-801-621-3637 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
