Plain-English summary

Shadow Trailers, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 gooseneck and bumperpull horse trailers manufactured between December 1, 2005, and August 11, 2011. The recall affects approximately 786 units equipped with Fastec-brand door locks featuring key cylinder numbers HF 304, HF 307, HF 308, or HF 309.

The defect involves the possibility of removing the key from the lock in a manner that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam, preventing a person inside the trailer from exiting without using the emergency exit. This situation increases the risk of injury to the occupant.

Shadow Trailers will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders as needed, free of charge. The recall began on December 10, 2013. Owners may contact Shadow Trailers at 1-352-529-2190 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
