ATC Trailers Recalled for Door Lock Defect That May Jam Deadbolt

Aluminum Trailer Company is recalling 2008-2013 Quest, RSX, and Raven trailers because a door lock defect may jam the deadbolt, trapping occupants inside.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria for potential entrapment and injury.

Plain-English summary

Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) is recalling certain model year 2008-2013 Quest, RSX, and Raven trailers manufactured between January 2008 and April 2013. These vehicles are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks that may allow the key to be removed in a way that jams the deadbolt.

If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could lock a person inside the travel trailer, preventing them from exiting without using the emergency exit, which increases the risk of injury.

ATC will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2013. Owners may contact ATC at 1-574-773-2440 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
