Chalet RV Recalls Travel Trailers Due to Door Lock Jamming Risk

Chalet RV is recalling 2006-2013 travel trailers and truck campers because a door lock defect could jam the deadbolt, trapping occupants inside.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported, as the defect could trap occupants inside the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.

Plain-English summary

Chalet RV is recalling certain model year 2006-2013 TS116, 1860, 1865, Aspen, Alpine, Arrowhead, and XL A-frames, travel trailers, and truck campers. The affected vehicles were manufactured between January 1, 2006, and April 25, 2013, and are equipped with Fastec-brand door locks. Approximately 3,500 units are included in this recall.

The recall is due to a defect in the door locks where it may be possible to remove the key in a way that jams the deadbolt. If the deadbolt jams, the interior side of the door lock may also jam. This could leave a person inside the travel trailer locked in and unable to exit without using the emergency exit, increasing the risk of injury.

Chalet RV will notify owners, and Fastec will coordinate the inspection and replacement of the cylinders, as needed, free of charge. The recall began on January 10, 2014. Owners may contact Chalet RV at 1-541-791-4610 or Fastec at 1-800-837-2505. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
