ATC Recalls 2012 RSX and QST Car Haulers Due to Brake Pump Defect

ATC is recalling 2012 RSX and QST car haulers because a defective brake actuator pump may fail, increasing crash risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake actuator failure) that can result in the loss of braking effort and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) is recalling certain model year 2012 RSX Gooseneck and Quest (QST) car haulers. These vehicles are equipped with a Dexter Axle brand electric/hydraulic (E/H) brake actuator pump that may not have been properly heat treated.

This condition can cause premature wear of critical components in the pump, rendering the unit inoperable. Since the E/H brake actuator provides braking power to the trailer brakes, failure of the actuator can result in the loss of braking effort by the trailer, increasing the risk of a crash.

ATC will notify owners, and Dexter Axle dealers will replace the electric/hydraulic (E/H) brake actuator pumps free of charge. ATC has not provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact ATC at 1-877-441-2440.
