Nissan Recalls 2012 Rogue and Murano for Inactive Tire Pressure Systems
Nissan is recalling 2012 Rogue and Murano vehicles because the tire pressure monitoring systems were not activated during assembly, failing to meet federal safety standards.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a safety-critical system (TPMS) whose failure poses a risk of tire blowout and crash, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported, and the vehicles are in dealer inventory.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2012 Nissan Rogue and Murano vehicles manufactured between November 23, 2011, and January 11, 2012. The recall addresses a defect where the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) was not activated during the assembly process. As a result, these vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, which requires functional tire pressure monitoring systems.
A non-active TPMS cannot warn drivers if a tire becomes underinflated. Underinflated tires can lead to overloading and overheating, which increases the risk of a tire blowout and a potential crash.
All affected vehicles are currently in dealer inventory. Dealers have been instructed to activate the tire pressure monitoring systems on all affected units. Customers may contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit safercar.gov for more information.
