Gulf States Toyota, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Toyota Tundra and model year 2011 Toyota FJ Cruiser vehicles. The recall addresses a failure to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138 regarding Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS).

On some affected vehicles, the TPMS may not have been properly calibrated. As a result, the low tire pressure warning lamp may not illuminate if the inflation pressure in one or more tires falls below the required threshold. This defect prevents drivers from receiving a warning that one or more tires are underinflated, which increases the risk that the vehicle will be driven with underinflated tires and increases the risk of a tire failure that may lead to a crash.

Dealers will recalibrate the tire pressure monitoring system in accordance with the regulation free of charge. The safety recall was expected to begin during June 2011. Owners may contact Gulf State Toyota Customer Assistance Center toll-free at 1-800-444-1074, Monday through Thursday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, or Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM Central Standard Time.
