Certain 2023 Toyota Tundra trucks with spray-on bed liners have incorrect load capacity labels that may indicate less weight than actually installed. This could lead to vehicle overloading and increased crash risk. Owners will receive free replacement labels.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves incorrect safety-related labeling that could lead to vehicle overloading and crash risk, but no injuries have been reported and the hazard is theoretical. This fits the criterion for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Gulf States Toyota, Inc. is recalling certain 2023 Toyota Tundra pickup trucks equipped with non-skid spray-on bed liners. The load carrying capacity modification label on these vehicles may indicate less weight than the actual total weight of accessories installed.
The incorrect label does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 110, Tire Selection and Rims. An incorrect label may lead owners to unintentionally overload the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Owner notification letters were mailed on January 10, 2023. Gulf States Toyota will mail replacement labels to owners at no charge. Owners may contact Gulf States Toyota customer service at 1-800-444-1074 for more information, or contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153).
