PACCAR Recalls Kenworth and Peterbilt Trucks for Brake Valve Defect

PACCAR Incorporated is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks manufactured between January 31, 2011, and January 19, 2012. The affected vehicles are equipped with Bendix ATR-6 anti-lock traction relay valves. The recall covers 15,932 units across various Kenworth models (T170, T270, T370, T440, T470, T660, T700, T800, W900) and Peterbilt models (320, 330, 337, 348, 365, 367, 382, 384, 386, 388, 389, 587).

In extremely cold conditions, the Bendix relay valves may develop internal leakage. This leakage can cause air pressure to be delivered to the primary or secondary brakes, resulting in continuous brake application. This unexpected braking can cause the brakes to overheat and lead to a fire. Additionally, it can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. The brakes may also apply without illuminating the brake lights, failing to warn other drivers.

PACCAR will notify owners and provide a temporary repair free of charge until Bendix develops a permanent remedy. The safety recall began on February 10, 2012. Owners may contact Kenworth at 1-425-828-5440 or Peterbilt at 1-940-591-4196.
