Nissan and Infiniti Recall Vehicles for Brake Pedal Pivot Pin Defect
Nissan is recalling 2008-2010 Titan, Armada, Infiniti QX56, and 2008-2009 Quest vehicles because a brake pedal pivot pin may not be formed to specification, potentially causing the pedal to partially disengage.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect in the braking system that reduces braking force and increases the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Nissan Titan, Nissan Armada, and Infiniti QX56 vehicles, as well as model year 2008-2009 Nissan Quest vehicles. The recall involves the brake pedal assembly where the pivot pin end was not spin-formed to specification during the manufacturing process.
This defect could allow the pivot pin to slide, causing the brake pedal to partially disengage from the brake pedal bracket. If this occurs, the driver will experience unusual and noticeable looseness in the pedal and a reduction in braking force, which increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles to see if the pivot pin was formed properly and will replace the brake pedal assembly if necessary, free of charge. The safety recall began on March 22, 2010. Owners may contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
